Easy guide to CSS3 @fontface

So you may have seen my quick post about Web Typography Trends that focused on the recent aesthetic changes we were seeing in web typography. Since then some of you have got in contact wanting to know more about websites that embed or link to real fonts and what methods web designers use to do this. Many of you have probably heard of flash replacement techniques or solutions that require Javascript (sIFR, Cufon, etc…). I myself have found that no replacement technique matches the capabilities, usability and overall flexibility of the CSS property @fontface. In this post I will explain a little about what @fontface is and also show you how to easily implement it within your designs.

Inspiring Web Typography

If one aspect of design has suffered most in it’s translation to the web, it is the art of typography. For years, web typography involved little more than choosing a typeface and font size.

However some designers are proving times are finally changing! With the advent of better screen resolutions as standard coupled with more control CSS gives designers 2010 really could be the year the web typography takes off.

Good typography is just as important on a web page as it is in any other medium. The fact that it appears on a computer screen and not on a piece of paper is immaterial; it should still be pleasing to look at and easy to read.
